Title: Techno Bowl (aka Tech?NO! Bowl)
Post by: Nefaro on February 25, 2017, 11:40:46 PM
This looks like a lot of fun without getting too bogged down in rules, or too much down time for the non-phasing player.

Didn't notice it on KS, but retail pre-orders supposed to be starting in the next week or two.

Would definitely want to craft up the wood player blocks to go with the cloth/rubberized playmat.   8)

Saw the print & play available on DTRPG's daily deal, but would much rather go with the prefab boxed game when it comes out.

I've never really been drawn to (american) football tabletop board games, as the rules just never seemed to be all that enticing on the few I've grokked.  Nor have I ever really considered the large investment in Blood Bowl, or any GW minis games for that matter. But this looks like an excellent fit for me.  :dreamer:

I received my copy last week and played my first (and only) game vs an experienced player.  I enjoyed it...not as much as Blood Bowl but it does do some things better than Blood Bowl does.  I *hated* having to juggle 14 (could be 16) cards on the card stand (5 in hand at any one time but you have to pull from the "bench" frequently).

I'm thinking of getting the old electric football pre-painted teams for it (if I get into it that much).

If I picked up the game, I'd also feel obliged to buy the extra wood blocks, for making better player pieces, and the $10 pdfs for printing the graphics to put on them.  The time + money sink would get larger.   :-\

Suppose I could at least pick up the base game and just put the rest off for awhile.

That's pretty cool!

Ordered it.  Was inevitable.  <:-)

I suppose the cardboard pieces will suffice.  Looks like it has a LOT of cardboard goodies in it, and the cloth-neoprene mat is a nice touch.

Game arrived.

Pretty heavy box!  Maybe about as heavy as the latest High Frontier edition.  Lotsa cardboard, for sure.  :o

FYI

Saw this in a comments section:

Just contact me on BGG or via email through my contact page at: https://bombshell-games.com/about/contact/

We'll get you hooked up! :)

I'd definitely like to pimp it out, and make the player blocks in the future.  There's how to get the files for printing off the graphics to be glued onto them.  O0

The counters are great, but yeah, the wood blocks are awesome looking in the videos. Michael's sells the 3/4" blocks for, I think, five bucks for 24 blocks.

Thing is, the PDF files include alternate designs. As far as I can tell, the alternate designs are just for the background color/number color on the top of the block and not the player uniforms. Most teams have two designs, but some have three. That's a lot of blocks.

Unboxing video is live now. And since you degenerates don't go to the front page, here you go. :)

Hasn't been "out for a year".  I think those were just pre-production copies being demo'd in the past.  The game hit stores in the past month or two.  ;)

Nice vid.

My bad, then. I was taking that cue from the dates on the posts in the BGG forum...sure seemed like it's been around a while.

IIRC, the print & play version has been around longer.

Nice work, GJK!  O0

I haven't gotten to the point where I'm ready to put stuff on wooden blocks. My review is going to cover the base game as is. Still, the components are pretty nice.
