Actually, Grant should also be up there with Lee. The difference was primarily in the turret design and the two names for the M3 medium tank were actually used by the British so they could tell their lend-lease tanks apart on reports and forms. It didn't help that the British were also using M3 light tanks supplied by the US as well. These they named Stuarts for the same aforementioned reasons.

And there could be two more models of tanks named Patton as well, M47 and M60.

Not to forget the Jackson (M36) although I know its a TD, and the M8 Scott.

What I found remarkable was that the Army has no problem with naming tanks after Confederate generals, but the Center for Military History will not recognize service for regiments that served on the Confederate side of the ACW.  There are units in the TN, SC, NC, AL Army Nat'l Guard (that I know of) who include regimental service in the Confederate Army in their lineage - usually right alongside service in AWI, 1812, Indian Wars, etc - but that lineage is not recignized by the official folks in DC.
The key to surviving this site is to not say something which ends up as someone's tag line - Steelgrave

That is interesting...but when has DC been consistent about anything :D? Southern posts are also named after southern generals, Ft. Bragg, Ft. Benning, Ft. Lee, Ft. Jackson, Ft. Hood, just off the top of my head.  I think I read somewhere that this was to help garner southern support during WWI.

ya dont see tube launched missiles often.
Toonces - Don't ask me, I just close my eyes and take it.

Gus - I use sweatpants with flannel shorts to soak up my crotch sweat.

Banzai Cat - There is no "partial credit" in grammar. Like anal sex. It's either in, or it's not.

Mirth - We learned long ago that they key isn't to outrun Star, it's to outrun Gus.

Martok - I don't know if it's possible to have an "anti-boner"...but I now have one.

Gus - Celery is vile and has no reason to exist. Like underwear on Star.

Speaking of the Chaffee - what was its intended purpose? Replacement for the Stuart's role,  or was it meant as an affordable tank for US allies at the time?   I remember it got noteworthy use at Dien Bien Phu.  I suppose tank classes were in flux at the time.  Also I figure in tank un-friendly country having something light and shoots was more important since deployment of those things must have been tough in those days.

Staggerwing

It was a replacement for the Stuart. The Stuart's design was no longer upgradable and it's 37mm gun was pretty woeful compared even to what armored cars were sporting at that time, never mind other tanks. The Chaffee was equipped with a lightweight 75mm gun and still not quite a Panzer-killer but  nevertheless much more capable. The US Army also wanted better cross country performance than the Stuart offered since light tanks were seen as scouting AFVs.

The interesting thing about the Chaffee's at Dien Bien Phu is that they were shipped in (by air, obviously) in parts and assembled by Legion engineers on-site.

^much like the way the Viet-Minh got their heavy artillery up into the high ground (except by cart, bicycle, and backpack instead of airplane).

True. A much more incredible feat really, and one that the French did not think possible.

The 10th Mountain in Italy gets my respect. Climbing all night up sheer cliffs, hauling their artillery up, too. The next morning they drive the Germans off the lower mountain.

I was just looking at a Stackpole book about 10th Mountain called 'Packs On'. I may well put this on my Christmas list.
