The exclusive release on Epic has happened. I love the series and some of the most fun I've had gaming has been me an my grandson grinding through co-op BL2. I haven't read any reviews yet, but did read that there were some issues with split screen, an option only available on console. Epic has a 6 month exclusive deal so it won't show up on Steam until April of next year. Hopefully by that time there will be another mod that allows me to play on two screens, co-op while owning just one copy.

Also, while there is no cross platform play at release, it is something the developers are working towards.

I may wait until that time to purchase. Or I may wait until Steam sells it with the hope that it doesn't need to be constant on-line while playing.

I have the PS4 version and can confirm the game is a bit of a mess on it.  Playable but certainly not up to the quality of previous iterations.
The particular problems in PlayStation are

  • No vertical Splitscreen which seems like an odd choice given TVs are wider than they are tall
  • Tiny font which becomes near unreadable in Splitscreen
  • Inventory bug where the picture doesn't match the item.  You can have a rifle with the picture of a shield.  Annoying mainly but when combined with the unreadable font, does sometimes lead to issues
  • Volume issues where you can't hear the character trying to tell you something sometimes.  Often have to walk away from the mission giver till the voice switches to the "echo" so you can hear

Honestly as a huge fan of the series, I have a hard time recommending this series, at least for people interested in couch co-op.  Even for online or single player, I have some reservations.

Hopefully things get fixed and soon. It's too good of a series and too long a wait for mediocrity.
