Spring in Phoenicia

  Well, the Great King ain't called Great for no reason and in 400 BC (in this fantasy series at least) -- he raises a new army in Phoenicia.  Cyrus (his little brother) is still after him with a few thousand hoplites BUT the Great King has a cunning plan : defend a river line and hide his new heavy Egyptians until he can strike a massive blow at his brother's army as it comes across the river:

  And then they get brutal.  The Great King's cavalry commander is dead and most of the Royal Army's cavalry is routed from the field:

   Alas!  Less than an hour later, many things happened to completely rout the Great King's Army: the Heavy Infantry moved forward too fast and became disordered just as the hoplites managed to sort of deploy and attack,  Cyrus' chariots and heavy cavalry crossed upstream with the peltasts and light cavalry, dispersed the archers and came in behind the Persian infantry; the Persian infantry were disordered by the Persian cavalry as it routed and Cyrus's heavy cavalry rallied.
