Finally had a chance to dive in on my livestream tonight. Having fun so far. I had a few concerns that it events would be too much like X-Com or Darkest Dungeon and pretty much F*** the player every time they trigger, and first few events I had did just that. After putting in about 2 hours of playtime tonight I seemed to have about 50/50 on how the outcomes have turned out.

I was also a little worried combat might get a little too samey after awhile but between the dice mechanic and watching some other streamers who can field multiple whaleboats I think there will be enough options to keep it from getting too repatative. My personal jury is still out on how much long term replayability there will be.
PanzersEast: Have to think to myself.... will I play the first one by the Winter Sale?  Probably not, then I should remove Dragonfall
PanzersEast: but that is thinking too logically.... and Steam Sales are about ignoring Logic

Curiosity got the better of me and I purchased Nantucket. I played it for a couple of hours and...the whale won. EVERY TIME! :tickedoff:
Regardless of how good a PC game may be it will always have its detractors and no matter how bad a PC game may be it will always have its fans.

A good whaling book in the Aubrey/Hornblower style is "The Corvette" by Richard Woodman (main character Nathaniel Drinkwater). It concerns a British Naval mission to escort the arctic whaling fleet and combines great age of sail action with a good insight into whaling in this period.
Woodman's books are excellent, and I say this having read all 20 of O'Brians Aubrey books

Are we giving this the official Grogheads Seal of ApprovalTM?  This looks like it might be a nice palette cleaner or Friday night scotch game but I need to consensus of my fellow Grogs before I pull the trigger.

Man I'm just not sure on this one.

At first I was all into it.  But the RNG is the suck.  I get it, sometimes things happen.  But I am getting royally screwed here.  I don't want to give away anything, but on one mission my first leveled up harpooner gets killed by a bolt of lightening.  Then, on the way home, I accept a side quest and I end up losing another crewman very suspiciously.  Finally, I get caught in a storm at sea and lose a third guy.  The storm at sea was my fault, but the other two....

This is going to be a very long, hard slog if guys keep getting randomly killed off.

Sounds like you've got a 'Jonah' on board. Better head to Jamaica. There's a Voodoo cure for that I think.
