Totally agree with Toonces, plus all the Bruce Catton books are worth reading as well, especially the 'Army of the Potomac' trilogy.

War of Rights is now testing 100-150 man servers. Amazing considering how much detail is in this game in comparison to holdfast.
The video below shows some of that detail:

That is impressive - as long as the game can attract that many players. Nonetheless, they've made some remarkable progress.
