Huw the Poo

That's really useful - thank you!

But remember you don't need the DLC's to get the patches.  I don't get the new focus trees and some of the new features but get many of them.  I think there is list of the non-DLC features with each patch's notes.

Waking the Tiger adds the improved Command and Control OOB.   Focus tree wise, it massively improves China, Germany and Japan.  It also adds national decisisions, which is a huge change to the vanilla system of doing everything via national focus.  It adds even more than that.   Neither of the other two DLC's add anything close to that.

I think you will like HoI4 a LOT more with Waking the Tiger than if you get Vanilla and just patch it up.   It's less a DLC and more a proper expansion and the fundamental feel and flow of the game changes when it's added.  The Combat planner and how generals work is worlds better with Waking the Tiger.  The prior system, while less complex, was honestly a bit frustrating and the AI handled it less effectively.

The 1.5 patches added both the new command and control feature and national decisions to my vanilla hoi4.

You're correct of course.  I got caught up in how Paradox advertised WTT rather than ever looking at the direct breakdown.  Waking the Tiger only adds the national focuses, air supply system, command power/leadership system.

Still the best overall of the DLC with that.

The only things I remember Together for Victory and Death or Dishonor adding that I've used was the Puppet/Satellite management system.

A lot of my blathering is simply justifying my decisions to myself.  I couldn't bring myself to purchase WTT for more than I paid for the base game at Christmas.

SirAndrewD

Oh, I can understand.  I do think the DLC's all add a lot to the game when taken together.  They're all overpriced for the content though, especially considering the OOB and Decisions  were in 1.5.

Anyone getting the base game could very easily wait for a sale.

iSorrow tries out a new insane mod for HoI4. Where Trotsky mocks Stalin's moustache and prank calls him. (Actual focus tree items in the mod!)

"So who will win the war for Siberia? Soviet communists out of food, or Mexican communists also out of food but drunk on vodkila!?"
ICEBREAKER THESIS CHRONOLOGY! -- Victor Suvorov's Stalin Grand Strategy theory, in lots and lots of chronological order...

Gotten really bored with iSorrow's videos lately.

In fairness, he has, too.

The 1.5.3 patch fooled me into thinking they had made the game playable.  Apparently they screwed up carrier planes' interactions with land-based planes during naval battles.  I started a game recently as the US and when I entered was with Japan I happily sent my 3 modern carriers to do battle with a Japanese task force of 2BB's and 4 DD's.  There were 19 Japanese land-based naval bombers in the battle and they wiped out all but 2 of my carrier planes without a loss.  That's 270+ planes to 0 in the loss column.  There's a thread on the Paradox forum's about it and sometimes it works the opposite way with all the land-based planes lost.  They seem to be unable to fix anything without seriously screwing up something else.

In all fairness, Bob, they fix two things for each 1 thing they screw up!

I hope this this fixes it.

Hearts of Iron IV: Man the Guns Expansion

Rule the Oceans

Man the Guns is a new naval themed expansion that brings you closer to the swelling waves as you train and command large battle fleets or smaller flotillas better designed for your coastal shoals.

From the Battle of the Atlantic and convoy escorts in the west, to the island hopping and carrier battles in the east, the course of World War II was shaped by fighting on the seas. Men and women filled the dockyards of the world, making the mighty warships that would prove decisive in humankind's greatest crisis.

Man the Guns adds greater depth to the naval side of the war, including the ability to design your warships in more detail. Add armor or heavier guns through a modular design. You can also refit older ships so that they are more in line with the latest technology.

Man the Guns also introduces new options for the democratic nations, including new paths for the United States and other great free nations. Explore alternate histories or fully mobilize the arsenal of democracy.

There are many more details to reveal, but, at the moment, these are state secrets. But, as usual, Man the Guns will accompanied by a large, free update available to everyone who owns Hearts of Iron IV.
