They've been cagey about it, but they've laid the groundwork for more than 13 (or whatever the number was supposed to be). Safe to say the show isn't going to end because of a limit on regenerating.

The limit still exists.  The Doctor had his full 13 regenerations (Tennant regenerated twice), ending with Matt Smith's.  In the 2013 Christmas Special "Time of the Doctor", the Doctor was gifted with a new 13 regenerations by the Time Lords, so the Capaldi Doctor was the first of a new set of 13.  The Master was in a similar situation.

So, much like Time Lords being able to switch gender, they've managed to write in new continuity and go fast and loose with the story as its gone along.

River Song isn't a Time Lord. She is human, but was born on the TARDIS while it was traveling so due to it's effects she has some of the Time Lords' powers (or something like that).

She was Half-Time-Lord.
Despite having both Human parents (Amy Pond and Rory Williams), having been conceived on the TARDIS (she was born elsewhere) made her a half time lord.


BTW, with the Doctor now being female, will they try for a male companion?
