New restaurant opens in town called "Babylon"
OK, no problem...  unless one reads the description of the restaurant.

QuoteInspired by the opulence of the ancient Mesopotamian city of Babylon and the legendary wonderment of the Hanging Gardens comes a conceptual restaurant, lounge, and event space unique in its kind to downtown Raleigh's dining and entertainment landscape.
Enter Babylon -- an exotic, cosmopolitan destination celebrating authentic Moroccan cuisine guided by the confluence of multi-layered Spanish, French, Jewish, and African cultures.

Huh?!  You named a Moroccan Restaurant after a location in the Middle East?!
'Cuz, uh, yeah... heck, they're all rag-headed Ay-rabs anyway, right?

Damn.  Look, I know that most Americans aren't smart enough to get that there's a significant geographical distinction here.  But I'm willing to bet there's some pretty striking differences between what they're eating in the Fertile Crescent, and what they're eating on the Atlantic Coast of Africa.

Just for comparison, I pulled the following from Google Maps:

Now 6500km is about 4000 miles.
For comparison's sake, Minneapolis, MN to the Panama Canal is 3900 miles.

Uff-da.

As a lifelong geography geek, shit like this drives me up the friggin' wall.  Not that I expect most folks to care as deeply about such things as myself, but to be *that* far off makes my head hurt.

A most apt comparison.

Martok, I'm with you.  Geography has fueled my history addiction and vice versa ever since I learned how to read a map in second grade.  To not know where things are is ignorant and very head in the sand.  It's also in keeping with humanity's "eyes forward, look neither left or right" approach to anything that doesn't concern them.

Answer to 1st question:  Hell yes you can!  They're only a 45 minute drive from each other.

Answer to 2nd question:  No, but the Vietnam Memorial is nearby!
