Quote from: FarAway Sooner on April 15, 2024, 12:19:15 PMIt's unclear if NATO has the ability to sweep the skies of cheap and plentiful Russian drones which seem to have been revealed as among the primary enemies of maneuver warfare.

this ability was pretty much proven last night over Syria and Iraq.

It's not about performance.  It's about stamina.

More specifically, I was referring to the $1,000 artillery recce drones that have been the primary agent in thwarting massed attacks to date in Ukraine.  I'm not as worried about whether we can shoot down something like the Shaheed; I just question whether we'll run out of Patriot missiles before Iran runs out of Shaheeds.

Do we have enough fancy weapon systems to shoot down those thousands and thousands of cheap-ass drones that both sides are now using to great effect?  Or, that failing, do we have the ability to use more really cheap weapons to shoot down their even cheaper weapons.

I had it wish listed but removed it earlier in the month when the developer announced their next game despite this one not being fully finished.  The cards and battle system did not really appeal to me either which is mainly why I removed it.   If you like the time period and ageod card type games with those types of battles I'd say can't beat it for $10 bucks, I don't think they ever released the "big" patch yet to add the rest of the gameplay (could be wrong about this).

I am in the same boat. There was supposed to be a fully fleshed out "loyalty" mechanic for the different regions (pretty important for the War of Independence) which was first said to be "coming soon after release" and now appears to have been quietly forgotten. The SGS games are okay but ongoing support is pretty threadbare from what I have seen, sacrificed to pumping out more new games.

We did a run down of the progress I've been working on CS Vietnam and CS Middle East and then dived into the Port Said scenario. The British seem to be still held up along the coast, but the French are rocking it this set of turns! We are advancing into the city from the south, but it is city fighting, so it's a pain. Many reinforcements have arrived, which is exciting as that will open up possibilities for the remainder of the scenario - especially potentially a push south. There was a valuable lesson to be learned about tanks in built up areas in this session.

I don't really have enough spare troops to siege your forts, so at best I could raid you.  I'll kill your stuff if you force me to do it, but it's really not a priority for me at all.  My game will be won or lost based on how fights with Mari go.

If you don't dome your forts, I will just disease and curse anything Mari sends onto your infrastructure to prevent her taking it.  If you can prevent her cracking walls for a few turns after I do that, the low-MR mounts in particular will have horrible afflictions.  Disease takes something like 10 turns to kill usually, but due to the hp decrease, a cursed unit will take lots of afflictions before then.

If you have a crone of Avalon with air, use wailing winds.  It's an extremely obnoxious spell (worse than blood rain) and I will be surprised if Mari can storm a fort with that up unless she just unloads like 30 pillars of fire or puts up wrathful skies and one of those catches your mage (she has the air queens so this is extremely likely to be active).  Might want to gear against that!  She can also cast mass flight to fly over your walls, unless one of you puts up storm.  If you can take 200-300 flying blessed knights of the chalice, then don't bother, but otherwise storm is a good idea.  Almost guaranteed you see fire storm since her bless has FR in it.  So yeah, just make sure you have lots of buffs, including both shock and fire resistance, a means to deal with flying to surround you, a way to see in the dark, and a way to manfight hundreds of sacreds.  Easy, right?

Her win condition for the war is to overrun us with troops and equalize/surpass me in infrastructure.  Mine is to kill her armies before she takes infra, after which my any-fort sacreds, while weaker, will be more numerous and boosted by the throne giving them awe.

Mari's armies are larger than mine + Man's combined right now, and she has multiple tech 8s researched.  I'm a bit ahead of her in tech, but tech differential isn't too impactful when both sides have 8s.

I'd hit targets in Iran to show the Iranian people and the world that Iran can launch at us and do next to none damage but we can hit back much harder.  The big risk of that is that Iran might decide to make a much bigger strike and lead to continual escalation.

Quote from: MikeGER on Yesterday at 04:25:32 AMSo what will be, the already planed and ordered, Israeli reaction?

I guesstimate a small flight will release a number of modified rather unexpected stealthy (for Iranian standards) cruise missiles, with penetrator capability (let's call it a Taurus 1.5) that will destroy a number of drones and/or ballistic missiles inside storage spaces.

Its not so much about to destroy a few dozen of drones but to demonstrate that they can hit any bunkered target deep inside Iran any time if they have to.
That is the message.

Do they have to hit Iranian territory?  This is kind of the problem more for Iran than Israel.  Israel could just sorta ask the Saudis how much they would mind if somebody (I'm not saying who) beat up on Hezbollah.  That way you kill 3 or four birds with one stone:
1) Iran's proxies start suggesting to Iran that maybe shooting at Israel isn't such a good idea.  Sure, it's good publicity, but somebody much closer to Israel might get hurt.
2) Iran gets to go on wondering and also explaining that blowing up its proxies is the same as blowing up Iran (which no one will believe)
3) Israel reduces the threat from Hezbollah
4) everyone (even the US and Iran and the Saudis) is happy
5) except Hezbollah
