I’m using two landing zones but they are close together.

My initial goals are:

  1. link the two landing zones
  2. take Mt. Suribachi
  3. take the first airfield

The landings were successful but the resistance was fierce.

Poor Supply situation

Poor Supply situation

I ran into an unexpected problem. My troops were under-supplied from the initial landing. My combat effectiveness was low due to supply problems. I had to take a couple of victory hexes which also provide supply. But it takes a turn or two for captured supply points to provide logistics benefits.

Attacking Mount Suribachi

Attacking Mount Suribachi

Mt. Suribachi had to be taken with infantry. Three platoons and one armor unit were tasked with taking the dormant volcano. Most of my artillery and all of the close air support was also tasked to Mt. Suribachi.

I earned a second wave of reinforcements before I got the supply situation straightened out. I took Mt. Suribachi on turn 5 and secured the Eastern tip of Iwo Jima on turn 7.
