Convention Report: Spring Fever
Brant Guillory, 22 April 2012
What happens when the Triangle Simulation Society takes over half of the local Hilton? Spring Fever!
The Details
From the Triangle Simulation Society's website...
Spring Fever is held yearly at the North Raleigh Hilton in Raleigh, NC. Spring Fever is oriented towards miniatures gaming of all genres. Generally, you will find 50 to 75 games presented by TSS, the South Carolina Historical Games Society, attending dealers, the Old Dominion Military Society, the Cape Fear Valley Historical Gamers, members of the Jacksonville Garrison and other groups. Spring Fever includes a raffle each year, with some truly wonderful prizes. Raffle tickets are $1 each and go to help defray the cost of the venue.
Let's face it, the key appeal of miniatures wargaming is the visceral visual impact of lovingly-crafted armies colliding on the tabletop. Rather than try to describe a bunch of rules systems I'd only halfway understand, I decided the way to show off a minis convention is by taking a lot of photos. A lot of photos.

Note how TSS puts the vendors in the main room, around the edges. Whenever you're at break between games, or heck, in the game, it's easy to turn around and check out what's for sale.
... including a pretty impressive haul dragged in by GrogHeads' forum member Ken Ellis. Trust me, there are some rare and fantastic gems on those tables.
Leaping Lemmings - a fantastic game from GMT - redone as a large minis map.

Starfighters - mixing and matching about 6 different classic sci-fi franchises... Bablyon 5, Star Wars, Battlestar Galactica, etc..

The kid at the table starts his advance on the cavalry charge
And with some pretty high rolls
The cavalry charge disintegrates
and... uh... keeps disintegrating.

More War Machine
No idea what this is for, but it looked damn cool, so I took a picture
Part 2 covers some fantastical outlandish games.
Part 3 has the WHFB tournament and some others.
