With some post-Zulu consolidation on going, it’s time for the Boers to get more shovels into the ground and start rebuilding the cities they conquered.

Because we’re (not) happyyyyyyyyyyy
I guess fighting a war annoys the population. Hmmmm…

civv

Launching a Caravan
Sokoto wants me to connect a trade route to them. I’ve got a caravan ready to launch that can reach Sokoto. Sounds good to me!

civv

What the Trade Route Brings
The calculation of what I would get from the trade route is based on resources and geography.

civv

Another City State
Honestly, I had to look up Bunkeya. I’d never heard of it.

civv

I’m out there
My lancer is ranging pretty far afield at this point. I’m not trying to pick fights; he was just the most mobile unit I had to send exploring.

civv

City State Hover View
You can hover over the city states for a quick look at your relationship with them.

civv

Meanwhile, Back in Boerville
Work is starting on 2 important cultural buildings – the Writer’s Guild and a Monument. My cotton sales to Bismarck have ended, and given that they’re busy denouncing me, I doubt we’re renewing that deal, so I’ve got some cotton to shop around.

civv

Yikes!
There’s a whole lot of Anglish about to ignite the Boer War in this game. Danger, Will Robinson!

civv

HELLLLP!
So I’m going to scoot over to my buddies the Ports, and ask what it would take to get a defensive pact. That way if the Anglish attack me, they’re also attacking Portugal. Call it the Southern Hemisphere Integration Treaty’s “Hits the Fan” clause.

civv

Great Googly Moogly!
Why yes, yes I will take your money for you to cover my tookus.

civv

I can’t make this deal fast enough…
Accept. ACCEPT! ACCEPT!!

civv

Just meandering around
And found another Portuguese city. You need to locate them on the map if you’re going to open a trade route with them. The game won’t let your lancer pull into the nearest gas station an pick up a road map.

civv

Sure as Kilimanjaro Rises Like Olympus Above the Serengeti
The Altitude Training promotion is actually pretty cool. Too bad it’s out of range for me.

civv

Hey Look – Another Wonder!
Found ’em both. Makes people happy. I needed it.

civv

Those Darned Anglish
Clearly they were not just passing through, but were itching for a fight until the Southern Hemisphere Integration Treaty’s “Hits the Fan” clause was ratified by the Boers and Portuguese.

civv

Barbarinos!
Let’s get all pokey-pokey with these guys.

civv

The Big Map
The Portuguese are about the cut the continent in half if someone doesn’t get a city wedged into the middle there. It’ll dramatically curtail my mobility if I can’t

civv

Hmm. What a coincidence
I just happen to have a settler ready to go somewhere!

civv

British Rail
Still suffering from locomotive envy and trying to overcompensate.

civv

Improvement time!
I’ve got a new social policy ready to choose. I’ve got a city ready for production. I’ve got a unit to promote, and city that’s growing. Everybody hum with me!

Next time? We’ll see you after Origins with a fresh pile of the Southern Hemisphere Integration Treaty and the continuing follies of the Boers-who-don’t-really-know-what-they’re-doing-but-aren’t-afraid-to-make-it-up-as-they-go-along.
