Prosciutto – Hamming it up with the di Parmas, Part Seven!

By Undercovergeek, 27 October 2012

A Crusader Kings II AAR, up to part 7. Yes, part 7. You’ve been reading this for a while, y’know.

In Part 6 Oberto was dealt a fatal blow in a battle to increase his Leige’s lands in Pavia, a new Martial was appointed, and Nice was taken into the fold of di Palma holdings. Now in Part 7 the succession laws divide the family, the HRE rids itself of plotters, Duchess Matilda gets a beating and a rich crop of knowledge is tapped.

My nephew, the new Martial wants a wife. We find him the Polish Queen Mother. It’s not as bad as it sounds, she’s 29, ginger and chubby, there are special websites for this kind of thing. Courtiers expect to find him dead in his bed, devoid of all bodily fluids in a matter of weeks.

It’s approved – God help him.

And now he wants some land! He’s told to wait, there’ll be plenty knocking around in a while.

After ‘fart-arsing around’ (as my noble RL father would say) for a number of years, sending small bands of soldiers to ineffectively quell Italian upstarts, the HRE finally decides to send a stack of doom down south to put an end to Matilda and her friends’ independence claims.

Matilda gets her ass kicked and cedes the Duchy of Lombardy to HRE – this is good news for Oberto, the smaller her realm the easier the fight for independence.

I’m an incapacitated vegetable, hanging onto life by my very finger nails and NOW you make me Master of the Horse?

Well there he goes, I would have liked to have achieved more but that b**** Duchess Matilda stopped any of those plans. I knew having twins was going to be trouble. One of the reasons I love CKII is its ability to rip you away from a character you’ve become attached to and implant you into the next character with an entirely different outlook. As Oberto the father I loved all three sons, wanted the best I could get for them. Now as Oberto the elder brother, the twins have taken half my lands and plans must be drawn up to take back these lands and defend my own immediate family’s best interests. An observer from the right step, on the right staircase might see Oberto looking up ‘fratricide’ in his big dictionary.

I say Yes for the prestige, and in the vain hope that I’ll get a ‘stab Liege whilst discussing your awesome Diplomatic ideas’ event.

My Step-Mother, recently married off to a German Count, sees that the best way of getting her twins in charge of di Parma lands is to kill me, genius – did I say I love this game? The plot has 64% power but no backers – I’ll watch this very closely, I suspect the plot will end when/if I have children of my own.

We steal some tech from Alexandria, this will turn out to be a fruitful venture.

In Part 8 – Feasts, Rebels, a Burgundy Bride, Babies, and di Parma civil war.
