In Part 5 the ‘wrong holding’ issue was finally sorted for Genoa, marriages were arranged with Kingdoms and Oberto looked to add Nice to the di Parma land holdings. In Part 6 Nice is taken, Dad retires and Duchess Matilda brings a halt to any other plans.

My nephew – good Martials are hard to find and now I have a spare one.

Giuditta finally comes of age and the French King comes knocking to remind me of the betrothal. She’s packed off to Paris.

350 Genoans siege Nice, whilst 205 ummm, Nicians? Nice people? Siege Parma. The red ‘!’ on the siege of Parma indicates that the attackers have fewer people than the garrison – no siege will take place, and the soldiers throw stones at the walls and mutter.

Nice finally falls and we gain both De Jure territories for the Duchy of Genoa. Once things are cleared up we can sort out claiming the title.

The spare Martial turns out to be the actual Martial. Dad is retired to keep warm by the fire and grumble until I can slice off a bit of Nice for him.

Here we go again, ‘wrong holding’! Another of those rich, fancy Mediterranean provinces with the city as the main seat, again we have to kick out the Baron. The ‘army’ of Parma waits nearby in case he wants a fight.

A wise man indeed. He will be rewarded in the future with other lands. See the notification in the top right? That’s right, the thieving b**** has stolen my Duchy before I could establish any claim….. a special place is held for her in the di Parma ‘grudge book’, and the path to independence will be investigated as soon as possible.

I can think of no more a fitting role for a crazy old man than to make him a Bishop. Dad’s sent to the seaside to run the Bishopric in Nice. The ‘wrong holding’ is corrected, peace returns to the land, and Oberto looks to return to Parma to sit and plan his destruction of Matilda of Tuscany…………….

Arse. Apparently fighting my own battles is not my only duty! It seems instead of planning his Liege’s cunning downfall in front of a large fire, Oberto was sent to Pavia to fight for the very same Liege he intends to overthrow – the life of vassalage. And now his head’s been smashed in.

‘He of the Beret’ is appointed Regent. Let’s face it, he will be made Count soon, there’s no coming back from a mashed head.

In Part 7 – Wedding bells & death knells, a pointless appointment, and a house divided.
