AARSDAY

Brant Guillory,

Just one question: Why doesn’t a computer game have the invention of computer games as a technological advance to research?

Persians! Why did it have to be Persians!
Now that I’ve started to run into other civs, I can’t stop running into them.

civv

Scouts on the Run!
My scouts on autopilot just seem to be danger magnets. First they were idiots. Then they were directionally-challenged. Now they’re daredevils.

civv

Money – that’s what I want!
Carthage is going to shift production to cash. Partly because I can always use more cash, and partly because there’s not much else out there I want to build.

civv

Next Policy
Religious Tolerance is going to help cut down on the costs of future policies, so it’s always good to grab it as soon as you can.

civv

I’m Saaaaailing Away! Never mind – that song is banned from all future AARs.
Seriously, I can’t stand that damn song. Has any band ever had a greater swing from “awesome catalog” to “that one crappy song you can’t stand”? Maybe RHCP and “Scar Tissue”? Pearl Jam and “Jeremy”? Black Sabbath and “Changes”?

civv

I don’t know what they want from me
It’s like the more money we come across
The more problems we see

civv

What a Wonderful World This Would Be!
I could do an entire AAR of song lyircs, y’know.

civv

Damn, those Spanish get around, don’t they
Fortunately, they’re on the other side fo the globe from me.

civv

A Spy, Sir.
What secrets would one like revealed by your intelligencier, sir? I’m going to send him to Madrid to nose around first.

civv

Almost… Home!
My trireme that got stuck on the other side of Greater Incspotia is now almost home and ready for upgrade to Caravelhood.

civv

Time to Conquer That Wild Northern Frontier
And we’re going to plant a city out there where we can try to eventually maximize the local resources.

civv

Presto Expando Carthago Nova!
We’re going to expand Carthago Nova with some judicious purchasing.

civv

Working on the Road Crew
Time to tie in our Northern Frontier with the rest of Metropolitain Carthage. Note the Canadiarian trireme sneaking up.

civv

How to Invest Our Latest Prophet?
We’ve already founded and enhanced our religion. Let’s put an otherwise useless tundra tile to work as a relgious location.

civv

Ohhhhhhhmmmmmmmmm
Religious site: unlocked!

civv

The Arctic Frontier Elephant Corps Rides Again
Chasing Canadians around the Great White North

civv

Demobilization, Carthage Style
I’ve already got upgraded pikemen being generated in my cities, and I don’t need to waste money upgrading non-promoted spearmen. So I’m going to delete this guy, save the upkeep cost, and move on.

civv

Yes, I’m Sure!
But I am glad that they asked, just in case.

civv

Man, There Ain’t Nuthin’ Out Here!
But we’re going to keep on looking!

civv

Delete?
Why hell no – that’s my double-upgraded quinquequequequereme!

Alrighty – here’s where we wrap it all up. Somewhere along the way my save file of this game got corrupted, and this is the last screenshot I had of this Civ V game. I’m more than happy to do this again for a big, long, hard Civ V BNW game, if folks are interested. Let me know what you think in the forums, and I’ll decide if we’ll do another AAR in the future. Sorry to disappoint, but hey – if you’re still reading at this point, it’s been most of year that you’ve kept up with it!

Thanks!

One Response to A Civilization V AAR – Part Ace-King

Thank you, Brant. This was very enjoyable. Had been looking forward to the endgame when you have major conflicts with the other civs, but that’s how it goes.
In regards to your playlist of theme songs. There was a one hit song from the early 70s, Timothy. considering your development of mines, this might be fun to use. The song is about a group of friends who go exploring, get lost, and then what happens to Timothy? A very unusual hit, even for the Stoned Generation.
